In the quest for health optimization, the use of certain substances often blurs the line between benefit and detriment. When discussing peptides and anabolic steroids, the variance in their impact on health becomes paramount. Dr. Latt Mansor recently engaged in a conversation with Dr. Florence Comite to discern the critical disparities between these compounds and their effects on the human body.
Anabolic steroids, a notorious class of drugs, draw an immediate red flag from Dr. Comite. She emphasizes their profound and pervasive damage within the body. These steroids, familiar to many in forms like Prednisone and dexamethasone, indeed serve a purpose in certain medical scenarios. However, Dr. Comite's approach as an endocrinologist leans toward minimizing their usage due to their broader repercussions beyond mere symptom suppression.
"Anabolic steroids are a whole other class, and they are extremely dangerous," Dr. Comite asserts, underlining their adverse impact on the lipid system. Despite the perception among some individuals that these substances can bolster health and physique, the reality can be starkly different. Misguided attempts to emulate trainers or obtain drugs from gyms can lead to a detrimental decline in health.
The damaging effects of anabolic steroids extend to cholesterol levels, eliminating the good while annihilating the bad, leaving individuals significantly unhealthier. Dr. Comite strongly discourages their usage, cautioning against the far-reaching repercussions that often go unnoticed until health is compromised.
Contrasting this, Dr. Comite sheds light on peptides, a distinct category of compounds often employed for health improvements. Peptides, simple protein hormones consisting of amino acid chains, interact more harmoniously with the body compared to their notorious steroid counterparts. They generally work in synergy with the body, offering potential benefits when utilized appropriately.
However, Dr. Comite raises a vital concern: the indiscriminate and unguided use of these agents. Whether it's peptides or other health-improving substances like Ozempic (semaglutide) and trizazepide, obtaining these compounds through questionable sources or without proper guidance poses significant risks. Even seemingly innocuous peptides can yield unforeseen effects if not administered with a clear understanding of their purpose.
The overarching fear remains that individuals, in pursuit of better health, might unwittingly undermine their well-being by embracing these substances without adequate knowledge or guidance. Dr. Comite stresses the importance of informed use, cautioning against casual or nonchalant access to these health-impacting agents.
In the labyrinth of health supplements and enhancers, the divergence between anabolic steroids and peptides stands as a testament to the delicate balance between improvement and peril. The wise course of action lies not just in seeking these substances but in acquiring knowledge and guidance to ensure that their use aligns with one's quest for genuine well-being.
In this episode, you'll discover:
-
Anabolic steroids, known for their damaging effects on the body's lipid system, pose severe health risks, including adverse impacts on cholesterol levels and overall health deterioration.
-
Peptides, as protein hormones composed of amino acid chains, function more harmoniously with the body compared to anabolic steroids, offering potential benefits when used appropriately and synergistically with the body's systems.
-
Dr. Comite highlights the critical importance of informed and guided use of health-improving substances like peptides, cautioning against obtaining them from dubious sources or without a clear understanding of their purpose to prevent inadvertently undermining one's health.

Dr. Latt Mansor:
What's the difference between anabolic steroids and these peptides that people actually use to improve health?
Dr. Florence Comite:
Steroids is a whole other class of drugs that do a lot of damage in the body. Now they can be, we've probably all heard of regular steroids like Prednisone dexamethasone, and they play a role, but I have to say I'm an unusual endocrinologist.
I'm an endocrinologist who minimizes the use of steroids because of the damage it does beyond just suppressing symptoms. So it's wonderful to take care of some inflammation and if somebody has a very severe B bite and they're allergic and could be anaphylactic or they have a severe respiratory infection, a short course of steroids.
could be helpful, but beware of bone loss. Beware of other impacts. Anabolic steroids are a whole other class, and they are extremely dangerous. They undermine the lipid system. I've seen many people who think they're doing the right thing by getting drugs at gyms and using what they think their trainers are doing when, in fact, it makes them extremely healthy.
It wipes out all the good cholesterol and destroys, you know, your bad cholesterol. So you are much sicker. And so I strongly discourage the use of it. We can tell in the data when somebody has been using it and even mega doses of testosterone, which is we use routinely both human chorionic and endotropin.
Simple peptide hormones are protein hormones that are strings of amino acids, just like peptides. And they work usually in synergy with the body. Now there could be all sorts of effects, so one has to be familiar with why you're implementing them, but that brings me all the way to ozempic, semaglutide, and trizazepide, because manjaro and and ozempic and wagovia are also peptides that work in sync with the body if you know what you're doing.
That's the biggest fear I have, that a lot of folks are using these agents and they're getting them in ways that may not be straightforward, and as a result, it can undermine their health as opposed to support their health.
